Fishing Buddies T-Shirt

Fishing Buddies T-Shirt

Updated: Jun 10, 2020

Ready for an adorable project for your kiddos to match Dad?

Hope and Kim Towne made a super cute fishing buddies t-shirt by using the embroidery design off of the “Camping Silhouette” Design CD. After taking the SVG, Kim used Craft N Cut, and the Knockout feature to finalize her look and proceeded to make this masterpiece!

We always recommend using our Embellish T-Shirt Centering Tool for unique vinyl projects like this! To make the design work in your Craft N Cut, you must do the black and white vinyl separate, and be super careful lining it up! Pre-press your t-shirt, use the t-shirt centering ruler after your design is to your preference, and press according to your heat press manufactures suggestions. The best part? You can make father-daughter/son t-shirts just in time for Father’s Day! Share with us your creations!

Beach Pillow

Updated: Jun 8

To end beach week, we wanted to share this DIY Beach Pillow Project!

With the help of Emily, Sydney, and Beth, we made a fun flamingo pillow case cover! To start this process you will need the following:

  1. Fabric of your choice (we used enough for an 18″ pillow)

  2. Zipper so that you can remove the pillow case and wash it as needed

  3. Embellish Heat Transfer Vinyl

  4. Thread of choice for sewing the pillow

  5. Heat Press

  6. Embellish Weeding tool

  7. Embellish T-Shirt Centering Ruler

After Beth, the Floriani Embroidery Manager, made us our pillow case, we pre-pressed the pillow case, then applied the SVG (which is below for free!) design that was cut on Embellish Heat Transfer Foil, pressed a few times, and tada! That’s all! This is a super easy project that took approximately 30 minutes total.

Beach Ready Accessories!

Beach Ready Accessories!

Updated: Jun 8

We all know that we HAVE to dress adorable for our beach trips! So, why not make our own accessories?

When creating Free Standing Lace Earrings, make sure that the design you have chosen is designed to be free standing lace, if it is not, you can still use it however you will need to use a piece of organza to support the stitches.

Choose your thread colors, I chose Floriani 40 weight thread for the top and bobbin. Hoop 2 layers Floriani Wet N Gone or Embellish Rinse Away Mesh, load your design into you machine, and stitch. If you need to add organza, you will hoop it on top of your wet n gone.

Once you design is complete, remove from hoop and trim away as much of the Wet n Gone/ Rinse Away Mesh as you can. To remove the remaining Wet n Gone/ Rinse Away Mesh just rinse it out. If you want your earrings to be a little stiffer, just wet enough to remove it completely from the open spaces. Allow to dry.

Once it is dried add your favorite earring finding and you now have a new pair of earrings!

Here are a few other jewelry creations that Beth made for this amazing collection:

In Need of Vitamin Sea

In Need of Vitamin Sea

Updated: Jun 8

Who needs some “Vitamin Sea”? This project was a fun and easy heat-press vinyl design that made our summer accessories perfect! Let’s start with a FREE SVG file just for you! This SVG was designed by Emily and the font was a free font that we used. The link below is your FREE SVG with “Vitamin Sea”!

https://static.wixstatic.com/shapes/5edfbf_e6ad66494d1541b39489ac91fc29d193.svg

The few items that we used to make this simple project were Teflon paper, a burlap bag from Hobby Lobby for $6.99, RNK Stitch Perfection Pink Tape and our Embellish Heat Transfer Foil in the colors teal and blush!

After Emily lined up the vinyl cut out design with our Embellish T-Shirt Centering Ruler, we had to press it in the heat press A LOT. We pressed it before we peeled, and even after to really secure the vinyl! Stay tune to even more projects during the weeks to come as we introduce a brand new theme each week! This week’s theme is the beach, so you will see lots of beach themed projects for your to create on our social media pages and our blog! We hope you enjoy our first project, “In Need of Vitamin Sea”.

Quilting School 101

Quilting School 101

Updated: Jun 8

Today in Quilting School 101, I want to tell you a little story and how our sweet educator, Judy, came to my rescue. Welcome to Quilting School 101, Class is in session!

As you can see in the picture to the left, we are talking about t-shirt quilts today! I am a BIG fan of t-shirt quilts. My mother gave my brother and I both a memorable t-shirt quilt when we were both seniors in high school. It was composed of all kinds of crazy shirts from our years in school. Cool right?

Since then, this has become almost a craze! It’s a simple and easy project for most experienced quilters that includes just a few needed materials and products to make. Well, this year, I decided to have a University of Tennessee t-shirt quilt made in honor of my husband graduating in the class of 2020!

It was a great plan! I sent off the t-shirts to be made into the quilt, as I am not a quilter myself, and we grew anticipation of this fun and memorable gift! But, I had an unfortunate circumstance happen when our quilter sent us the picture of the final project. The quilter accidentally used the back of a fishing jersey, for The University of Tennessee’s team, that was leftover from a previous year and did not have my husbands last name on it. We had a good laugh about it!

After having a good laugh about it, I decided to ask around work (RNK Distributing) to see if anyone knew how to fix a quilt. To my surprise, not many people know anyone that “fix quilts”. Well, to my saving rescue came our sweet educator, Judy Fredenburgh! Judy knew exactly how to fix it and fixed it in a little over 2 weeks during her busy schedule with our new live virtual events. So to share the wealth of knowledge on how to fix the quilt, let’s begin with some before and after photos!

Here is a detailed photo of the before moment…

Here it is after Judy fixed it!

Now how to fix your very own quilt instructions with Quilting School 101:

Step 1) took a picture of the “name” that needed to be fixed

Step 2) placed tissue paper over the name and traced the stippling that was over the “original name”

Step 3) measured the actual quilt where the name was

Step 4) Used FTC-U to create alphabet letters the same size to match the letters in the pictures of the wrong name

Step 5) test sewed the lettering out and made adjustments, laid over original design to make

sure all letters were same size, and width

Step 6) backed a piece of white fabric with Dream Weave Ultra

Step 7) Hooped white fabric with white No Show Mesh

Step 8) Embroidered new name

Step 9) Folded white fabric into a tube, turned right side out, and tucked the ends in

Step 10) Stitched close to the edge of the “white rectangle” all around

Step 11) hand stitched the new name in place with Quilter Select 80wt thread

Step 12) placed the traced stippling design over the new name

Step 13) used matching thread to the original stippling and stitched thru the tissue paper to connect all of the stippling

Step 14) used a hand needle and buried all the thread ends in quilt

Create a Vinyl T-Shirt in 15 Minutes

Create a Vinyl T-Shirt in 15 Minutes

Updated: Jun 8

Last week, I was digging in my closet trying to find something to wear for memorial day.. We’ve all been there, right? Well, with my luck I found nothing! But, I did have a black sleeveless shirt, and some really cute Power Shine Glitter heat transfer vinyl by Sew Much Cosplay, a RNK Distributing brand!

So first things first.. I created the vinyl cut out that i wanted using the Embellish Vinyl Weeding Tool and their Scan N Cut! Next, I lined up the vinyl cut out with my T-Shirt Heat Transfer Vinyl Centering Ruler by Embellish. I prefer to use the RNK Pink Perfection Tape to secure the vinyl to the ruler so that I will get the design perfectly centered! Here’s what the ruler and tape look like if you do not watch the video..

After my design is centered, I remove the ruler first and then the pink perfection tape. Now I am ready to press! In this tutorial, a heat press was used to ensure that any moisture was taken out and the vinyl was evenly applied with heat. I also used teflon to make sure the shirt or vinyl didn’t burn or have damage. Finally, I peeled off the top layer of the vinyl to allow only the words to be on the shirt.

After these quick steps, the shirt is complete and ready for any southern gathering, patriotic picnic, or just a quick trip to target! This project was so quick and easy! Watch the video below to follow along how to make this patriotic shirt, perfect for any and all occasions!

Upcycle Bath Towels

Upcycle Bath Towels

Updated: Jun 8

Do you ever have old bath or beach towels that you just don’t know what to do with them? Should you give them away? Or maybe use them as a rag? Or well, I guess we could throw them away too.. Instead of throwing out the old, let’s upcycle and make it new!

Our educator, Laura, took her old bath towels and one coordinating hand towel to make this cool project! Follow the directions below on how to create a deck chair cover with a pocket! This project is perfect for your summer lounging days!

Here’s what you will need:

  1. 2 bath towels (any size) and one coordinating hand towel (I love the clear section at stores and look every time I am there).

  2. Embroidery design of your choice if desired

  3. Size 14 embroidery needle

  4. Color keep topping

  5. Floriani Perfect Stick

  6. Stitch perfect tape

  7. Size 14 Microtex needle

Okay so now let’s talk about how to build this beautiful new accessory that would make an amazing getting out of the pool hangout spot! First, Hoop one layer of Floriani perfect stick in your hoop paper side up, score lightly with a needle to

expose the sticky. Place your towel sticking it to the stabilizer. Using Heat n Gone topping or Floriani color

keep topping, cut a piece large enough to cover the embroidery design size and baste the three layers together. Embroider your design choice.

Next, place your two bath towels wrong sides together and with a Microtex size 14 needle, stitch across the short side of the towels to attach them to each other. This is a perfect time to use the Floriani Stick perfection tape to keep the towels straight and even, if you use pins on thick fabrics, it is very easy to cause them to “shift”, and the tape will just wash right out when your project is complete.

After that step, drape your towels across the top of the chair you are planning on covering it with. Smoothing the towel, place a straight pin into the top chair towel to mark where you want to sew your pocket. Notice the flower head pin on the left hand side of the picture. This is what I lined up the hand towel to.

Line on edge of the hand towel wrong side to the right side of the bath towel. Overlap the two towels approximately ½” to 1” (I just used the folded over hem of the hand towel) and using Floriani Stitch Perfection Tape to hold them together. Using a strong stitch on your sewing machine (I used a two step elasticator zigzag stitch and made it narrower) stitch the hand towel to the bath towel.

Fold the hand towel up and match the top edges. Stitch the two sides of the hand towel closed, completing your pocket. If desired, add additional lines to hold your water bottle, sunscreen tube etc. Cover your chair, grab a book or magazine and enjoy some sun time this weekend.

Rooting for the Rooster

Rooting for the Rooster

Updated: Jun 8

Don’t you love fun, summer decor? If you’re like me you also love that Southern Rooster kitchen decor! Well, here’s a way to kick that up a notch!

This project is inspired by Debbie Homer. Isn’t that awesome? So let’s talk about things you will need for this project!

  1. Embellish Matte Thread (For the Quilted Stitching and Outside Stitch)

  2. Your left over buttons in the jar we all know you have!

  3. Twine

  4. Your favorite fabrics!

  5. Hot Glue (if you would like to hot glue the twine to the buttons and back!

  6. Quilters Select Rotary Cutter for precise cuts

  7. Rooster and Flower Patterns (unless you love free hand)

  8. Quilters Select Soft Blend Batting

  9. Floriani Wet N Gone Stabilizer

  10. Hoops to Embroider the Free Standing Lace

  11. If you choose to use Color Keep Topping Floriani has a great selection!

  12. RNK Distributing Fun With Flowers Design CD for leaves

After you stitch your design in your hoop, cut away the bulk of the stabilizer. If you would like the free standing lace to be a little stiff, you don’t have to rinse all of the stabilizer out. But, typically, we like to rinse it all away with warm water. If you would like the lace to be soft, rinse the stabilizer completely in warm water, or soak it in warm water. But, do not let it dry out until you are sure your stabilizer is gone!

To find out if you still have stabilizer in your pattern, you can blot it dry and squeeze it in your hand to feel the stiffness and tackiness. The free standing lace is the hardest part of this project. So, now that you have your free standing lace you can begin assembling your rooster! Once you have your patterns of the flowers and rooster cut out, it becomes simple assembly!

Once you complete your rooster, this project becomes the cutest door knob hanger, front door accessory, cabinet decor, or you can even make miniature versions for a cooler version of a gift “bow”. The possibilities are endless! Get creative and design your own rooster! Send us pictures if you create a rooster or let us know what you think of this project!
