Ready for a beautiful lavender scented gift by Clarrisa?

Supplies:

2 Cocktail Napkins- Mine were 6”x6”- I purchased these from “All About Blanks”. (https://www.allaboutblanks.com/blankshop/pc/Pastel-Dot-Border-6×6-Cocktail-Napkins-322p1071.htm)

Lavender, rice with essential oil, potpourri, downy bath beads or anything you choose to put in your sachet

1/8 yard of neutral fabric or scrap 4×11” for an inner pouch for scent

Embroidery Design to fit the center of Napkin. My design was from the free monthly designs in Floriani Total Control Software, May 2014. I resized it in the software to be 2 ¼”x3”.

7”x10” piece of Floriani Wet n Gone Tacky

Small piece of a water-soluble topper to cover your design

(Optional) Quilter’s Select Perfect Cotton thread in colors to stitch out your embroidery design- Yes! I said Quilter’s Select cotton thread for embroidery! This thread has a polyester core with cotton heat sealed to the core on the outside which makes it strong enough for embroidery. Since your design is small the weight of the Quilter’s Select Perfect Cotton thread is a great weight for the smaller design and it gives your design a Matte finish!

If you choose not to use the Quilter’s Select thread you will need Floriani embroidery thread for your design.

4” of 5/8” wide Velcro

5/8 yard of ¼” wide ribbon

Standard Sewing thread to coordinate with the ribbon

Standard Sewing thread to stitch Velcro and inner pouch

Water Soluble fabric marker

Quilter’s Select Glue Stick

Embroidery:

1. I find it very helpful to print a full-size template of your embroidery design from your software. I printed my template in black and white. Since the area you are embroidering is small you want the design to fit. I darkened the vertical and horizontal lines on the template with my fabric marker.

2. Place the template behind the napkin if your napkin is white as you can see through it. If not white, cut out the design printed on your template and place it on top of your napkin. Either way, mark the vertical and horizontal centers onto your napkin from your template. My napkins weren’t perfectly square so my marks weren’t exactly in the corners of my napkin.

3. Hoop the Wet n Gone Tacky paper side up in the smallest hoop to fit your design. It’s always best to use the hoop closest in size to your design so you have less chance of the stabilizer and design shifting in your hoop. Score the paper in the hoop and remove the paper to expose the sticky on the stabilizer.

4. With your water-soluble marker, using the marks on your hoop, mark the vertical and horizontal lines on the Wet n Gone Tacky.

5. Fold your napkin along the marked horizontal line from the back. Holding the napkin over the Wet n Gone Tacky in the hoop, line up the horizontal center and vertical center and stick to the Wet n Gone Tacky. Unfold and place the other side of the napkin.

6. Place a piece of water-soluble topper on top and embroider your design.

7. Tear away excess water-soluble topper and being careful to not cut the napkin, pull the napkin away from the Wet n Gone tacky, and trim around the design.

8. Run napkin under cool water to remove remaining Wet n Gone Tacky, water-soluble topper, and marks. Rub with fingers to remove. Let dry. If you are in a hurry, place a terry towel on your ironing surface, smooth out and place a napkin on top of the towel and place a pressing cloth on top. Press holding the iron in place to dry napkin.

Inner pouch construction:

1. Cut 2 pieces of neutral colored fabric 4”x4”.

2. Place both pieces right sides together and stitch around 3 sides with the width of your pressure foot as seam allowance.

3. Turn right sides out.

4. Stuff with your choice of scented item.

5. Place open ends together and zig-zag end closed.

Sachet construction:

1. Determine which edges of the napkins fit together best. Since the napkins aren’t perfectly square you will need to find how they fit together best. Place the 2 napkins wrong sides together and see how well they fit together. Continue turning the napkins until they fit together best. Mark on each napkin in one corner, matching which direction fits together best.

2. Take the loop side and hook side separately of the Velcro and cut in half lengthwise to make a long narrow piece of Velcro.

3. Thread your machine and wind a bobbin in the thread to stitch the Velcro.

4. Stitch the hook side of the cut piece of Velcro on the backside of one inner edge of the napkin along the pulled thread area of the napkin. Edgestitch around all edges of the Velcro.

5. Using the marks you made to fit the napkins together best, place the 2 napkins wrong sides together matching the marks. This will determine the side you will sew the Velcro on for the front side. On the top napkin (the one with the embroidery) place a pin on the same side the Velcro is on the back.

6. On the backside of the top napkin and the side where you placed the pin, sew the loop side of the cut Velcro along an inner edge where the pulled thread area of the napkin is. Edgestitch around all edges of the Velcro.

7. From the right side of the top napkin, place a line of Quilter’s Select glue along the pulled thread area around all 4 sides. Place ribbon on top of the pulled thread area where you placed the glue, mitering at the corners around all 4 sides. Start at the corner where you would like to place a bow. Fold the end under.

8. Change needle thread on your machine to coordinate with your ribbon.

9. Stitch along both edges of the ribbon around all 4 sides.

10. Place both napkins wrong side together, sticking Velcro together. Using your Quilter’s Select Glue Stick, glue on the backside of one napkin along the pulled thread area around the 3 sides without the Velcro. Glue both napkins together.

11. Stitch again on the top, through all layers, along the previous outside line of stitching of your ribbon leaving the Velcro side unstitched.

12. Tie a little bow and using your Quilter’s Select Glue Stick, glue it to the corner where you started your ribbon placement. Using a medium width zig-zag and 0 stitch length, tack it to the corner.

13. Slip your inner pouch inside and Velcro shut.

Fluffy Flower Towel Table Runner

Fluffy Flower Towel Table Runner

Updated: Jul 27, 2020

Here is a lovely table runner to adorn the head table at a wedding reception made by Clarrisa!

Supplies:

Kitchen Towels (not terry cloth)-I purchased mine from “All About Blanks”. (https://www.allaboutblanks.com/blankshop/pc/Tan-Cream-Check-Kitchen-Tea-Towels-308p717.htm)

The number depends on the finished size of the table runner you want. I used 2 that were 20”x27” each, making my table runner 20”x54”. Add more towels for a longer table runner.

½ yard of 58-60” wide lace

Roll of 1” wide Floriani Wet n Gone Tacky tape

Nylon tulle or Nylon Organza to stitch flowers. (I used one yard each of 2 different colors.)

Floriani Wet n Gone Stabilizer to fit hoop for stitching flowers

2 pieces of Floriani Heat n Sta Stabilizer 10”x13”

3D Freestanding Flower Embroidery Designs

Floriani Embroidery Thread for Monogram on ends and 3D Flowers

RNK Heat Craft Tool

Standard Sewing thread to coordinate with Lace fabric

Quilter’s Select Invisible thread

Quilter’s Select Glue Stick

Glue Gun and glue sticks

Water Soluble Fabric Marker

Embroidered Flowers:

I embroidered flowers that were about 3-4” wide. I stitched 12 total flowers, 6 for each end.

1. Prepare 3D flower designs in your software to put as many flower pieces as possible in your largest hoop. If your design has the option to stitch the flowers with or without the center, stitch only the top flower layer with the center leaving the remaining flower layers empty in the center. This will take out some of the bulk in the center. It takes a while to stitch out the flowers so start this first and while it’s stitching you can start preparing the table runner.

2. In the hoop layer, a piece of Wet n Gone on the bottom and a piece of organza or two pieces of tulle on top.

3. Stitch out your hoop full of flower pieces. Towards the end of stitching, plug in your RNK Heat Craft Tool to heat it up. LEAVE IN HOOP WHEN FINISHED.

4. Place the flower pieces with the hoop over a heat resistant surface such as a tile, mirror, or piece of glass. Using your Heat Craft Tool move around the outside perimeter of your flower pieces to remove excess organza or Tulle. I find it best to stay a little away from the edge of the stitching and keep the tool moving. If you melt a few threads on the edge it’s OK. The tool seals the stitches. See the link below for tips on using the Heat Craft Tool. At 2 minutes, 50 seconds on the video there are more tips.

https://rnkdistributing.com/products/RNK-Specialty-Products/RNK-Heat-Craft-Tool

5. Partially remove some of the Wet n Gone by running your flower pieces under cool water. LEAVE SOME OF THE WET N GONE IN.

6. To create texture for the flowers, take each flower piece and scrunch them up. Let each piece dry.

7. When the pieces are completely dry, gently pull them apart and shape them by flattening them out a bit. Layer each flower with its pieces.

8. Thread your Sewing Machine needle with the embroidery thread color you used to embroider the centers of the flowers. You can use standard thread in the bobbin.

9. Set your Sewing Machine for a medium width zig-zag and 0 stitch length. Holding the flower layers together, use the zig-zag stitch to tack all the layers together. Stitch in 4 places of the center around the edge of the center. Repeat for all flowers.

Table Runner Construction:

1. Determine how many towels you will be using. The more towels the longer the table runner.

2. Wind bobbin with standard sewing thread. Thread needle with Quilter’s Select invisible thread.

3. Lay 2 towels end to end (short side) backside up and tape them together using the Wet n Gone Tacky Tape. From the right side, with a wide and long zig zag (I set my machine width at 5 and length at 5) zig-zag the two towels together. Repeat for any additional towels if you chose to make your table runner longer.

4. Fussy cut one edge, across the width of your lace fabric if there is a pattern in your lace.

5. Across the width of your lace cut a piece 14” Width of Fabric.

6. Lay one end of lace piece over one end of the table runner with about a ½” extending past the end. If your lace has a symmetrical pattern, center the pattern side to side over the end.

7. Cut off sides of lace ½” past the towel on both side edges.

8. Pin lace to towel about every 4” around the 3 straight edges of the lace. Keep pins from extending into ½” lace edges.

9. Using your Quilter’s Select Glue Stick, glue the curved cut edge of the lace to the towel using just dots of glue every 2-4” depending on the pattern of your lace. The glue will be yellow when applied but will dry white.

10. Peel the paper from the back and place a piece of Floriani Wet n Gone Tacky Tape on one lace seam allowance with one edge of the tape where the towel edge is. This is why you don’t want the pins extending into the lace seam allowance.

11. Turn Wet n Gone Tacky tape to the back of the towel and stick down folding along the edge of the towel.

12. Repeat steps 10 and 11 for all sides.

13. Thread your Sewing Machine with Standard sewing thread in the top and the bobbin.

14. From the front, using a straight stitch, stitch using the width of your foot as a guide around the 3 straight edges. Set your machine to medium width, default length zig-zag, and stitch the curved edge of the lace to the towel.

15. Repeat steps 6-14 for the other end of the runner.

Monogram:

  1. Prepare your Monogram design in your software. I used the font “Monogram2” from Floriani Total Control Software. I made my font 4” tall and by making it so large there were very long satin stitches in the letters. I used the “fill” tab in the lettering properties box (tab looks like a star) and changed the default satin stitch to a fill pattern instead.

  2. Fold the towel in half lengthwise to find the vertical center. Mark with a water-soluble marker. Decide how high to place your monogram. With my 4” font I chose to make my horizontal center 4 ¼” from the bottom of the towel. Mark the horizontal center.

  3. Place a pin at each end of the marked vertical and horizontal centers.

  4. Turntable runner over. Fold the Heat n Sta stabilizer in fourths from the fusible side and crease on folds.

  5. Using the folds and the pins on the back of the towel, line up and center the Heat n Sta stabilizer piece on the back of the table runner and fuse.

  6. Using the marks on your hoop, center the marked monogram area in your hoop.

  7. If your design is over 10,000 stitches, float another piece of tearaway under the hoop. Float a piece of Water Soluble stabilizer on top to cover the stitched monogram area.

  8. Stitch out your monogram. Tear away excess water-soluble topper and Heat n Sta Stabilizer.

  9. Repeat steps 2-8 for the other end of the table runner.

Flower Placement:

  1. This is the creative part. Arrange your 3D flowers around the monogram.

  2. Once you have them arranged, slightly lift one flower at a time and mark with a water-soluble marker where the center of each flower is placed.

  3. Using your glue gun, glue each flower in the place where you marked.

Sparkly Lace Clutch

Sparkly Lace Clutch

Updated: Jul 27, 2020

Hey everyone! My name is Clarrisa and I have a fun, sewing project to get you ready to be a wedding guest, create a wedding gift, or even make the perfect gift for your bridal party!

Supplies:

  • Purchased plain clutch

  • Freestanding lace design or lace design that can be sewn on Organza

  • Floriani thread to stitch your chosen design

  • Floriani Wet n Gone stabilizer to fit hoop 4 times for freestanding lace or 2 times for lace stitched on Organza

  • RNK Perfect Grip Tape

  • RNK Battery Powered Rhinestone Setter

  • Swarovski Crystals

  • “Jewel It” glue by Alenes

  • Piece of wax or parchment paper to cover clutch

  • If you choose to stitch a lace design on Organza you will need a piece of Organza the size of your hoop. You will also need the RNK Heat Craft Tool.

Prepare Embroidery Design:

1. You will need to fill the plain area on the clutch with your lace embroidery design. Measure the area on the clutch where you would like to place your lace leaving about a ½” around the edges.

2. In your software you will need to arrange your lace designs to fit the measured area. In Floriani Total Control Software you can use the shape drawing tool and draw a rectangle on your screen and resize it to make it the size of the measured area. On the clutch I created I used a different technique on each side. You decide if you want to embroider Freestanding Lace or stitch lace on Organza and cut it out.

· For the Freestanding Lace design, I used the “Lace Borders” design set by Floriani. In my software I opened my chosen design, copied and pasted it. I then mirrored it horizontally and moved it close to the original. I combined both of the designs and resized them to fit into the rectangle drawn on the screen.

· For the Lace stitched on Organza design, I used the “Floriani Family Lace” collection. I used the border from design 8 in the collection. I opened the design, copied and pasted it. I mirrored it horizontally and moved it close to the original. I then removed the 3 hearts from the copied border so they didn’t overlap the first design. I then took a small section of the scalloped border, copied it, pasted it and placed it vertically at each end. In the open spaces I added the lettering. Lastly I combined the elements of the design and resized them to fit into the rectangle drawn on the screen.

Embroidery:

To prepare your hoop for embroidering a thinner fabric or just stabilizer, wind your inner hoop with RNK Perfect Grip Tape. This will keep things from slipping while stitching.

· For Freestanding Lace, Hoop 2 layers of Floriani Wet n Gone Stabilizer. Stitch out your design. When finished remove from hoop and cut away excess Wet n Gone. Partially remove the Wet n Gone by running under cool water. Leave some of the Wet n Gone in to give the lace piece body after it dries. Lay flat and let dry.

· For Lace on Organza, Place a layer of Wet n Gone and then a layer of Organza in your hoop with the Organza on top. Stitch out your design. When finished LEAVE IN YOUR HOOP. Plug in your Heat Craft tool and let it heat up.

To use the Heat Craft tool:

Place the Lace Organza piece with the hoop over a heat resistant surface such as a tile, mirror or piece of glass. Using your Heat Craft Tool move around the outside perimeter of your flower pieces to remove excess organza. I find it best to stay a little away from the edge of the stitching and keep the tool moving. If you melt a few of threads on the edge it’s OK. The tool seals the stitches. See the link below for tips on using the Heat Craft Tool. At 2 minutes, 50 seconds on the video there are more tips.

https://rnkdistributing.com/products/RNK-Specialty-Products/RNK-Heat-Craft-Tool

· Partially remove the Wet n Gone by running under cool water. Leave some of the Wet n Gone in to give the lace piece body after it dries. Lay flat and let dry.

Placing Embroidery:

1. Place a paper towel on your working surface and place your lace wrong side up on the towel.

2. Find an old plastic lid or someplace to put your glue. Squirt out about a Tablespoon of “Jewel It” glue onto the lid.

3. At this point you can be neat and tidy and use a Q-Tip or I just used my fingers to spread the glue.

4. Spread enough glue around outside edges of lace pieces to dampen the edges. On the organza piece try not to get too much glue on the organza.

The glue dries semi clear.

5. When placing the lace piece on the clutch be careful to not get glue on the clutch. It will stain the fabric of the clutch. To place the lace, hover above the clutch with the lace piece down and using your eye center the lace piece over the clutch. Place lace on clutch when you have it lined up.

6. Place a piece of wax or parchment paper over the lace. My clutch was slightly rounded so I placed a folded towel over the paper and then put a couple of heavy books on top. Let dry. It takes about 8 hours. Place second piece of lace on other side of clutch.

Crystals:

1. Place two AA batteries in the RNK Battery Powered Rhinestone Setter.

Here is a link with a video on how to use the Rhinestone Setter:

https://rnkdistributing.com/products/RNK-Specialty-Products/Battery-Powered-Rhinestone-Setter

2. Place various Swarovski Crystals on the lace using the Rhinestone setter. Make sure you

keep the Rhinestone setter in place

long enough to completely glue the crystals.

Make sure you have a piece of Heat N Sta Fleece 12” x 18” cut for each place mat

POCKET PREPARATION FOR EACH POCKET

1. Fold 4 ½” x 13” piece in half, right sides together along the narrow side. Pin around 3 raw

edges. You will have a piece 6 ½” x 4 ½”.

2. With a ¼” seam, start stitching at a fold end for about 2”. Tie off stitching and begin again

about 2” from where you ended, leaving a hole for turning the pocket. Continue stitching

around remaining 2 edges. Repeat for other pocket.

3. Trim off the 2 stitched corners at an angle.

4. Using your RNK Turning Tool, turn pockets right side out and press flat turning the opening along the ¼” seam line. Leave open.

PLACE MAT PREPARATION AND POCKET PLACEMENT

1. Place one piece of place mat fabric, right side up on pressing surface. Center one piece of Heat N Stay Fleece, fusible side down on top of place mat fabric. The place mat fabric will extend about 5/8”

beyond fleece.

too complicated so it will stitch

Bandana Picnic Table Topper

Bandana Picnic Table Topper

Here is yet another #diy just for you! It is BBQ/Picnic week and we are so excited to share this with you!

Clarissa made this amazing project for you! Download the printable instructions below:

SUPPLIES:

• 3 1/8 yards of 44” wide burlap – when they cut it

make sure they pull a thread to get the grain straight

• Four 21 ½ to 22” bandannas

• Spool of Quilters Select® Invisible thread

• Roll of 1” wide Wet N Gone® Tacky tape

• Roll of ½” wide Quilters Select Appli-Stick Tape

• Spool of standard sewing thread

1. Wind bobbin with standard sewing thread. Thread needle with invisible thread.

2. Loosen upper tension. I went down to about a 2.5.

3. Press all bandannas.

4. Make sure the end of the burlap is on grain. Measure along selvage 54”, clip and pull

thread across width of fabric. Cut on pulled thread line. Measure 54” again, pull and cut

another piece. You will have a little extra burlap. Press burlap pieces. It doesn’t have to

be perfect but press out any creases. I found spritzing with water helps.

BANDANA PREP:

1. Lay the edges of two bandannas side to side. On the back side, use the wet n gone

tacky tape to tape the two bandannas together. From the right side, with a wide and

long zig-zag (I set my machine width at 5 and length at 5) zig-zag the two bandannas

together. Repeat for remaining bandannas.

2. Lay above two pieces side by side, on the back side tape the center where the

bandannas intersect with a small piece of wet n gone tacky tape. Tape half of the rest

and zig-zag together from the front. Tape the remaining half and stitch again.

3. Fuse ½” appli-stick tape around entire outside edge of the bandannas.

BURLAP PREP:

1. Measure from selvage across width of each piece of fabric to 27”. Clip and pull a

thread. Cut on thread pull line. You should now have two pieces of burlap 27”x 54”.

2. Fold each piece in half lengthwise and mark the center on one selvage. Fold again

in half to find the quarter and mark. You should have now both pieces with one selvage

marked into quarters.

3. Laying the marked burlap edges side by side, matching marks on each piece

as you stitch, start stitching about 1 ½” from beginning and stitch two burlap pieces

together side by side. Finish stitching about 1 ½” from end. The 1 ½” will be the

area for the fringe.

4. Measure 5 ½” from all four edges, clip and pull a thread. DO NOT CUT on this line.

This will be the mark where you will place the bandannas.

5. Measure 1 ½” from your needle and place a tape on the bed of your machine

to mark a 1 ½’ seam.

6. Using the previous settings of your zig-zag, stitch around all 4 sides of the burlap,

pivoting 1 ½” from the corners. Leave the corners free of stitching so you can pull

threads for the fringe.

FINISHING:

1. Pull the paper backing from the Appli-Stick tape on one edge of the bandanna piece.

2. Line up one side of the bandanna piece with one pulled thread line on the burlap.

Press from the front edge of the bandannas to adhere the Appli-Stick tape to the burlap.

I ended up laying the entire piece on the floor at this point to line up the remaining

sides. Zig-zag this one side using previous zig-zag settings. Repeat for 3 additional

sides. Hint-the Appli-Stick tape is sticky and reposition-able until you press it.

3. Pull threads on all four sides to 1 ½” stitching to make fringe.

Patriotic Party Garland

Patriotic Party Garland

We know it’s the Fourth of July weekend, and we are here to help you create!

This may be the best project ever to do with your kiddos or grandchildren! So here we go..

Making a garland costs around $6 depending on if you have fabric or rope/twine. We had lots of scrap fabrics or short cuts of fabric in our warehouse, but had to go buy rope at Hobby Lobby with a 40% off coupon which made it $4.20! So for less than $5 you can make a 12 ft garland that is perfect for the Fourth!

We measured our rope and began tying our pre-cut random sized/uneven strips. We didn’t make a pattern, but it turned into beautiful chaos! With Sydney and Emily making this Garland, it took around 30 minutes. Please expect around 1 hour project time for cutting, sorting, and tying to complete the project with one person. Happy Fourth of July Everyone!
