Grillin’ and Chillin’ Outside Decor

Grillin’ and Chillin’ Outside Decor

So, these may be amazing!! We had so much fun making this.

First things first! Here’s the things you need:

A premade hanging board from Hobby Lobby Retailed at $3.99.

Fun door knobs or accessories to hang. (We chose coke bottle cap knobs)

Embellish Heat Transfer Vinyl

An Iron

A Drill with Bits

That’s It!

We first drilled the holes for this project with a proper drill bit, and made sure that the knobs would fit. Then, after we cut out the vinyl design, and used an iron to allow it to be placed. After that we used our Pampered Chef Grilling utensils to display! This is an easy 15 minute project that will make your back porch or grilling area have a brand new upgraded look!

Reversible Picnic Place mat

Reversible Picnic Place mat

It’s Picnic and BBQ week here at Create with RNK! Clarissa has another amazing project for you!

Download your printable instructions:

SUPPLIES:

• ½ yard of two 45” prints – one for each side of place mat (makes 2 place mats)

• Two pieces of Floriani Heat N Sta® Fleece 12”x 18” (for 2 place mats)

• Spool of Floriani® Embroidery Thread to coordinate with prints

for decorative stitching (optional)

• Spool of standard sewing thread to coordinate with prints

• Quilters Select® Glue Stick

• RNK Turning Tool

• Pressing cloth

• Fabric marker

• Pins

CUTTING-FOR EACH PLACE MAT

Cut a piece 13 ¼” x 19 ¼” out of each print – for place mat

Cut a piece 4 ½” x 13” out of each print – for pockets

Make sure you have a piece of Heat N Sta Fleece 12” x 18” cut for each place mat

POCKET PREPARATION FOR EACH POCKET

1. Fold 4 ½” x 13” piece in half, right sides together along the narrow side. Pin around 3 raw

edges. You will have a piece 6 ½” x 4 ½”.

2. With a ¼” seam, start stitching at a fold end for about 2”. Tie off stitching and begin again

about 2” from where you ended, leaving a hole for turning the pocket. Continue stitching

around remaining 2 edges. Repeat for other pocket.

3. Trim off the 2 stitched corners at an angle.

4. Using your RNK Turning Tool, turn pockets right side out and press flat turning the opening along the ¼” seam line. Leave open.

PLACE MAT PREPARATION AND POCKET PLACEMENT

1. Place one piece of place mat fabric, right side up on pressing surface. Center one piece of Heat N Stay Fleece, fusible side down on top of place mat fabric. The place mat fabric will extend about 5/8”

beyond fleece.

2. With iron on cotton setting, place a pressing cloth on top of the fleece and press fleece to the place mat fabric. Hold iron in place over the entire surface of the fleece to press fleece to fabric.

3. In the bottom right corner of fabric with fleece and contrasting fabric, mark 1 ¼” from the right

edge and bottom edge of corner. Make mark about 6” long. This is where you will place pocket.

4. Using your Quilters Select glue stick, apply glue to 3 stitched edges of pocket, not the fold edge.

5. Place pocket within marks in bottom right corner with fold side at top.

6. Wind bobbin and thread machine with standard sewing thread.

7. Edge stitch around 3 stitched sides of pocket leaving the fold side open for pocket.

8. Wind bobbin and thread machine with standard sewing thread.

9. Place contrasting piece of place mat fabric right sides together on fabric with fleece and pin around four edges of the place mat.

10. Stitch, leaving an opening for turning, with a 5/8” seam allowance around 4 sides of place mat.

11. Trim off the 4 stitched corners at an angle.

12. Using your RNK Turning Tool to turn the corners, turn place mat to right side.

13. Press flat turning opening along 5/8” seam line. Leave open.

14. Using a coordinating standard thread, edge stitch around all 4 sides stitching opening closed as you stitch around.

DECORATIVE STITCHING (OPTIONAL)

1. Wind a bobbin and thread your machine with the coordinating Floriani Embroidery Thread.

2. Choose a decorative stitch to place around outside edge. Choose a stitch that’s not

too complicated so it will stitch

Bandana Picnic Table Topper

Bandana Picnic Table Topper

Here is yet another #diy just for you! It is BBQ/Picnic week and we are so excited to share this with you!

Clarissa made this amazing project for you! Download the printable instructions below:

SUPPLIES:

• 3 1/8 yards of 44” wide burlap – when they cut it

make sure they pull a thread to get the grain straight

• Four 21 ½ to 22” bandannas

• Spool of Quilters Select® Invisible thread

• Roll of 1” wide Wet N Gone® Tacky tape

• Roll of ½” wide Quilters Select Appli-Stick Tape

• Spool of standard sewing thread

1. Wind bobbin with standard sewing thread. Thread needle with invisible thread.

2. Loosen upper tension. I went down to about a 2.5.

3. Press all bandannas.

4. Make sure the end of the burlap is on grain. Measure along selvage 54”, clip and pull

thread across width of fabric. Cut on pulled thread line. Measure 54” again, pull and cut

another piece. You will have a little extra burlap. Press burlap pieces. It doesn’t have to

be perfect but press out any creases. I found spritzing with water helps.

BANDANA PREP:

1. Lay the edges of two bandannas side to side. On the back side, use the wet n gone

tacky tape to tape the two bandannas together. From the right side, with a wide and

long zig-zag (I set my machine width at 5 and length at 5) zig-zag the two bandannas

together. Repeat for remaining bandannas.

2. Lay above two pieces side by side, on the back side tape the center where the

bandannas intersect with a small piece of wet n gone tacky tape. Tape half of the rest

and zig-zag together from the front. Tape the remaining half and stitch again.

3. Fuse ½” appli-stick tape around entire outside edge of the bandannas.

BURLAP PREP:

1. Measure from selvage across width of each piece of fabric to 27”. Clip and pull a

thread. Cut on thread pull line. You should now have two pieces of burlap 27”x 54”.

2. Fold each piece in half lengthwise and mark the center on one selvage. Fold again

in half to find the quarter and mark. You should have now both pieces with one selvage

marked into quarters.

3. Laying the marked burlap edges side by side, matching marks on each piece

as you stitch, start stitching about 1 ½” from beginning and stitch two burlap pieces

together side by side. Finish stitching about 1 ½” from end. The 1 ½” will be the

area for the fringe.

4. Measure 5 ½” from all four edges, clip and pull a thread. DO NOT CUT on this line.

This will be the mark where you will place the bandannas.

5. Measure 1 ½” from your needle and place a tape on the bed of your machine

to mark a 1 ½’ seam.

6. Using the previous settings of your zig-zag, stitch around all 4 sides of the burlap,

pivoting 1 ½” from the corners. Leave the corners free of stitching so you can pull

threads for the fringe.

FINISHING:

1. Pull the paper backing from the Appli-Stick tape on one edge of the bandanna piece.

2. Line up one side of the bandanna piece with one pulled thread line on the burlap.

Press from the front edge of the bandannas to adhere the Appli-Stick tape to the burlap.

I ended up laying the entire piece on the floor at this point to line up the remaining

sides. Zig-zag this one side using previous zig-zag settings. Repeat for 3 additional

sides. Hint-the Appli-Stick tape is sticky and reposition-able until you press it.

3. Pull threads on all four sides to 1 ½” stitching to make fringe.

Patriotic Party Garland

Patriotic Party Garland

We know it’s the Fourth of July weekend, and we are here to help you create!

This may be the best project ever to do with your kiddos or grandchildren! So here we go..

Making a garland costs around $6 depending on if you have fabric or rope/twine. We had lots of scrap fabrics or short cuts of fabric in our warehouse, but had to go buy rope at Hobby Lobby with a 40% off coupon which made it $4.20! So for less than $5 you can make a 12 ft garland that is perfect for the Fourth!

We measured our rope and began tying our pre-cut random sized/uneven strips. We didn’t make a pattern, but it turned into beautiful chaos! With Sydney and Emily making this Garland, it took around 30 minutes. Please expect around 1 hour project time for cutting, sorting, and tying to complete the project with one person. Happy Fourth of July Everyone!

DIY Garden Tea Pot & Parasol

DIY Garden Tea Pot & Parasol

Ready for your last Tea Party Week DIY? We #love this one!

Kathy’s daughter made this adorable tea set when she was a child. She took a tea cup and glued it to the tea plate. We then filled it with fresh potting soil and planted purple static flowers!

Now for the adorable and vintage part of this project – the parasol.

Things you need:

  • PF0800 – Floriani White Embroidery Thread

  • 3- Full Bobbins with white thread (I wound my own using PF0800 to perfectly match the top thread.)

  • Free standing lace Doily design to make a doily approximately 8” in diameter. I used a flat edged wedge type design from RNK’s Embroidered Treasures Collection.

  • Embellish’s Rinse Away Mesh Stabilizer

  • 8”- 3/8” wide Flat decorative lace or ribbon

  • 1- wooden skewer

  • 1- 8mm Bead Cap with center hole

  • 1 – small decorative flower

  • Hand sewing needle

  • Hot glue gun and glue sticks

  • Scissors

  • Kitchen Shears or Cutting Pliers.

  • Embroidery Machine and hoops

  • All the stuff you need to embroider. (Embroidery scissors, M&Ms, coffee, tea, your music, applique scissors, etc.)

NOTE: I suggest slowing your machine down to around 600 stitches per minute. This helps stop thread breaks and bird nesting.

Instructions:

Making your Free-Standing Lace

1. Hoop your Rinse Away Mesh in your hoop.

2. Select your chosen design.

3. If you select a design that takes multiple pieces to make the doily, you only need to make 2 to 3 of the wedges. Use your own judgement.

4. Embroider your design(s).

5. Once the embroidery is complete, un-hoop and trim away extra stabilizer. Immerse in plain water, covering the doily completely. Soak until all the stabilizer is removed, changing the water often for a soft flexible embroidery. Doily should be very soft and pliable when all the stabilizer is washed out.

Putting your parasol together

1. Preparing your FSL doily:

NOTE: Use the same thread that you embroidered with and it will disappear as you sew.

a. If you used a multiple piece design, hand sew the designs together to make a cone.

b. If you used a single piece design, fold the doily into quarters and hand sew up the side to form a cone.

c. Once you have your cone, gather the open top about 3/8” down. Do not pull to tight at this point or tie off your thread.

2. Insert the wooden skewer through the point of your cone leaving about 1/8” below the point of the cone. See Figure A.

3. Apply glue to the tip of the cone and place the Bead Cap on the tip with the skewer thru the center hole. Allow to dry.

4. Now is the time to tighten the gathering at the top of your Free-Standing Lace. Once it is tight, gently twist the Free-Standing Lace to the right or left to give it the look of a closed umbrella. Wrap your thread around the gathered area and tie off your thread.

5. Use your kitchen shears to trim the long end of the skewer to 2 ½”- 3” above the top of the Free-Standing Lace.

6. Starting at the top of the Free-Standing Lace, spiral the flat lace/ribbon up the remaining skewer. Glue the top of the flat lace/ribbon to the end of the skewer and trim. Let glue dry.

7. Push the flat lace/ribbon up from the bottom just a tad and place a dot of glue. Let the flat lace/ribbon fall into place. Press against the glue. Let dry.

8. Wrap a piece of flat lace/ribbon to hide your gathering stitches. Glue in place.

9. Make a small bow using the flat lace/ribbon and glue in place where the above flat lace/ribbon comes together.

10. OPTIONAL – Glue a small decorative flower on top of the bow. Let glue Dry.

National Bring Your Dog to Work Day!

National Bring Your Dog to Work Day!

Happy National Bring Your Dog to Work Day! If you are like us, your fur-babies are your life, and you are 100% on board for giving them cute accessories!

It’s super easy and fun to make! All you need are these few items:

  • Quilters Select Rotary Cutter

  • Scrap Fabric or Fabric to match the occasion

  • Embellish Heat Transfer Foil

  • Weeding Tool

  • Floriani 60 wt thread (we used a very light grey)

  • Quilters Select Prewound bobbins (used a light grey to match)

  • A Heat Press

The size of the bandanna truly depends on your dog. We used 23″ wide x 9.5″ long for a small dog bandanna. However, here are more dimensions to choose from:

  • XL: 40″ wide x 17.5″ long

  • L: 34″ wide x 14″ long

  • M: 28″ wide x 12.5″ long

  • S: 23″ wide x 9.5″ long

  • XS: 17″ wide x 7″ long

Simply measure and cut to your desired size. At the bottom of the triangle, you will need to measure and cut two straight lines to the end of the bandanna to make the triangle shape. Next, you will want to fold and pin your edges to make a crisp edge. We prefer to have 1/4″ seam.

After it is all sewn up, we applied the Embellish Heat Transfer Vinyl at an angle to make it “so fetch”! Get your free SVG Below and look at adorable pictures/videos of Ledger.
