If you know Kay Brooks, known as Kayly, she is the “K” in RNK Distributing! Her experience in the sewing and embroidery industry is elite, and her knowledge is immense! Kay wanted to share a little bit of her knowledge on the Floriani Stabilizers! Follow along below!

Learning to stabilizer fabrics properly for embroidery or embellishment can be overwhelming! A poor choice could result in puckers or a ruined project. There are also many factors that go into the decision process: fabric type, design size, design density, thread, etc.

At RNK we have many choices of products to help make your embroidery experience as perfect as possible! I am often asked why we do not make a spray adhesive for any of our brands. If you have ever attended one of my classes or seen my videos you will know I am not a fan. Spray adhesives are very messy, odor/allergy prone and do not “stabilize”.

In the 90’s when the embroidery craze hit the home market, spray adhesive was very popular but we quickly learned it was not the best path to good embroidery. PLUS it made a mess of the machines and hoops, not to mention what gets on your carpet, walls, cabinets, etc. The idea was to spray your stabilizer and then stick it to your fabric and hoop – the problem here is spray adhesive only “spot tacks”, so the embroidery can still push and pull the fibers of the fabric.

The very best way to stabilize your fabric (wovens, cottons or stretch) is to FUSE your stabilizer to the fabric. Our fusible stabilizer has millions of fusible crystals in place that will temporarily bond to your fabric to hold each fiber in place. The embroidery is then under control, it cannot “bully” the fabric! The result is “no stress” on the fabric fibers and perfect embroidery. Once stitching is complete the fusible stabilizer can be pulled back to the design and cut or torn away.

EVEN if you are “sticking” your garment or fabric down to one of our awesome pressure sensitive products (Perfect Stick, Sticky Tearaway, Wet N Gone Tacky), it is important to “prep” your fabric first with one of our fusible stabilizers. I LOVE the results of this! Again, the fusible will hold the fibers in place of the fabric and then the sticky stabilizer only has to hold the piece in place for the embroidery. Double LOVE!!!

1. Cannon Aerial Tramway is the first aerial passenger tramway in North America. It was built in 1938 at Franconia Notch.

3. The first potato planted in the United States was at Londonderry Common Field in 1719.

4. New Hampshire adopted the first legal lottery in the twentieth century United States in 1963.

5. Levi Hutchins of Concord invented the first alarm clock in 1787.

6. The snow mobile was invented in West Ossipee.

7. The 1995 hit movie “Jumaji” was filmed in Keene.

8. New Hampshire is the only state where seat belts are not mandatory.

9. New Hampshire has the shortest shoreline in the nation!

10. America’s first summer resort town was Wolfeboro.

It is time to create your medieval or war reenactment cosplay for all the festivals, so let’s create a functional pocket to carry your accessories in style! Follow along below!

Susan has created a beautiful pocket design for French and Indian War reenactment. She used Floriani Thread, Floriani Dream Weave Ultra, Floriani Perfect Stick, and Water Soluble Topping. Here’s a little note with History about this beautiful reenactment costume from Susan, herself:

“It was the 18th Century. It was the French and Cherokee vs. the British. The thistle was a symbol of the British King, King George III. The hat is called a tricorne and under it is a mop cap. After a certain age males and females did not go

into public without having a head covering.

The “shirt” is also sleepwear and the undergarment. It is referred to as a chemise or a shift. Aprons and knives were worn for utilitarian purposes while working in the kitchen. I had always heard around the fort that in the colonies, women wore pockets on the outside of their skirts with ornate embroidery to show eligible suiters that they had a profitable skill they could bring to the marriage. This would seem attractive to men. After the woman is married she then wears her pockets on the inside of her skirt to show that she is taken. There were slits on each side of her skirt allowing access to the pockets.”

Fun Facts About Kansas:

1. Kansas is really is flatter than a pancake. Scientists proved it when they compared the topography of Kansas against that of a pancake from IHOP.

2. In Derby County, Kansas, a law is in place that makes it illegal for any person to hit or punch a vending machine when it has stolen a person’s money.

3. In Kansas, it is illegal to hunt whales, even though it is located in the middle of the country with no coastline in sight.

4. The tallest waterslide in the world is at the Schlitterbahn Waterpark in Kansas city, Kan. It is taller than Niagara Falls.

5. Second only to Texas, there have been more meteorites found in Kansas than in any other state west of the Mississippi River.

6. Kansas in one of the two sources of helium in the U.S.

7. The first national hamburger chain started in Kansas when Walter Anderson opened the first White Castle hamburger restaurant in Wichita in 1921.
