And as our final fun facts bein on New Years Eve, let’s celebrate by learning a few new things!

Fun Facts on New Years Eve:

  1. The NYC Ball weighs 11,875 pounds, and is covered in 2,688 Waterford crystal triangles.

  2. The New Years Eve “kiss” possibly came from a Roman Festival or German heritage!

  3. In Mount Olive, NC, they drop a giant pickle on a flag pole as a tradition for NYE. The town of Brasstown, North Carolina traditionally lowers a possum instead of a giant ball of lights on New Year’s Eve.

  4. In certain parts of Spain, they have a NYE tradition of eating as many grapes as possible for good fortune.

  5. In Greece, a gold or silver coin is baked into a cake, called a vasilopita. The person who receives the piece of cake with the coin inside is said to have luck the rest of the year.

  6. If you’d like to be among the first to welcome the New Year, then you’ll want to visit the tiny Pacific island nation of Kiribati. It’s located in the world’s earliest time zone, so it’s always the first place on Earth to welcome a new year.

  7. There’s a penguin party musical festival in Antarctica called, “Icestock”.

  8. In Puerto Rico, it is a tradition to jump into the ocean when the lock strikes 12.

  9. The first NYE ball dropped in 1907.

  10. Until 2006, the Space Shuttle never flew on New Year’s day or eve because its computers couldn’t handle a year rollover.

Thank you to all of our followers for an incredible year of creating and embroidering together! We can’t wait to show you what 2022 has in store! Until next time, Happy Sewing and Happy Creating Everyone!

  1. First up, let’s visit Montreal! Home to the famous poutine dish that is hearty and delicious. While you snack on your new favorite dish, visit the famous Notre-Dame site!

  2. Alberta has some of the most breath-taking views! This destination is perfect for your favorite outdoor activities! Here, you can find saskatoon berry tea, tarts, jams, and some still use the berry to combine with their bison meat!

  3. The Yukon is a great destination if you’re ready to relax in their natural hot springs! This historical old-town vacation is home to gold mining which shows in some tradition cuisine like: moose, sheep, mountain goat, and meat pies.

  4. Nova Scotia is a fun Summer vacation filled with beaches, wine country, and maybe some secrete buried treasure! If you ever want an interesting story to read, research Oak Island’s Mystery treasure!

Now it’s time for fun facts about Canada! Who’s excited?!

Fun Facts About Canada:

  1. Canada is the world leader in mining uranium, which is used in nuclear power plants to produce electricity.

  2. There are approximately 500,000 Canadians who claim Norwegian ancestry.

  3. “Hawaiian” pizza was actually invented by an Ontario man, not by the Hawaiians.

  4. Canada has the longest highway in the world: The Trans-Canada Highway covers an astonishing 4,860 miles.

  5. Canada has 20% of the world’s fresh water.

  6. Canadians consume more macaroni and cheese that any other nation.

  7. Every Christmas, around one million letters are addressed to Santa Claus.

  8. The most popular countries for travel for Canadians are the USA, Mexico and Cuba.

  9. If you’re familiar with Canadian slang, you must have heard”eh”used in everyday conversations. The interjection is often used at the end of a question or to greet someone at a distance. It’s even listed in the Canadian Oxford Dictionary!

  10. Nunavut – a territory in Northern Canada–was only established in 1999 and is home to the Inuit community. When driving a car in Nunavut, don’t be surprised to see plates resembling white polar bears instead of standard ones.

  11. You can experience the highest tides in the world at the Bay of Fundy in New Brunswick. With a tidal range up to 38 ft. (12 meters),the tides flow in and out twice a day.

  12. For those who want to reach out to Canada, the official phone number is 1-800-O-CANADA. The number provides a general information service, and–in infrequent instances–you may be contacted to deliver Government of Canada services.

  13. For decades, the Hudson Bay region was an unsolved mystery to scientists. The area has lower levels of gravity compared to the rest of the globe. You won’t float, but you’ll weigh less!

We hop you LOVED this week’s Floriani Flower designs! We can’t wait to see what you create with them! Until next time, Happy Sewing and Happy Creating Everyone!
