Flowers are made for the memories in our lives. They are presented with love in both the good and the bad situations. The beauty of flowers is not of their color or their distinct uniqueness, but rather the fact that every year – when Winter comes and goes, they bloom again reminding us of hope, and a new beginning.
If you note the patterns and pieces to the left, you’ll see pure inspiration. As a sewer and embroiderer, you know how crucial it is to put your full heart into a design, or as some know it – “Made with love”.
The flowers in this design represent unity, growth, love, happiness, and aspiring goals. Look how to flowers are connected and growing together! See how the colors blend to form a beautiful picture in unification.
The hopeful picture that these flowers bring, is to bloom where you are were planted and sow where you were fed!

If you’ve been following our latest series, we are “Sketching Across America” with the State Flowers! So, rightfully, when we saw this beautiful design by Gabriela Hearst on Instagram (https://www.instagram.com/p/CKTe9W0AEnj/) we were {sew} excited!
We have encouraged our fans to create the unimaginable with our State Flower Design. We’ve seen beautiful quilts, tea towels, embellished jackets and blouses, and more! It’s phenomenal to think that a simple design of flowers can bring so much joy and unity in the community of sewers and embroiders. But what if we could spread that joy and unification?

Here is what Gabriela had to say about her beautiful design:
“The message of Unity is the main inspiration for the creation of the Ensemble. Unity makes strength and it is needed for the road ahead. The blooming symbol to represent this message are the federal flowers from every state and territory of the United States of America. The flowers are embroidered into the cashmere coat on the hem line in an pattern that rises organically on the side’s seams. On the dress, the embroidery is placed on the silk organza neckline and arms. The body of the dress is constructed in silk wool caddy.
The Delaware flower is positioned at the heart level of The First Lady, from there, all the other flowers branch out. The pieces were made entirely in New York City. The Embroidery and Coat were crafted in the garment district and the dress was assembled at the inhouse studio. Each flower took approximately two-four hours to embroider. Careful placements and color selections were carefully studied for weeks. Inside of the coat, representing the lifelong calling and service of Dr. Biden as an educator is a hand embroidery on the lining with a quote from Founding Father Benjamin Franklin “Tell me and I forget. Teach me and I remember. Involve me and I learn.” The materials used were existing available fabrics to minimize the impact on the environment #gabrielahearst“
Naturally, this dress and coat that was worn by Jill Biden on Inauguration Day inspired us even more as we continue our “Sketching Across America” journey!
Shinae, a Floriani Educator, has begun her development of a dress inspired by this piece by Gabriela Hearst!
