Fun Facts About South Carolina:

  1. South Carolina produces more peaches than anywhere in the country, except California. Take that, Georgia.

  2. South Carolina is the birthplace of barbecue.

  3. Frogmore stew is a traditional South Carolinian dish that is not actually a stew, and doesn’t actually use frogs.

  4. There are no major professional sports teams in South Carolina. That’s right, no NFL, NHL, NBA, MLS, or MLB.

  5. It’s illegal to fish with a yo-yo or dynamite in the fine state of South Carolina.

  6. There’s a UFO Welcome Center in Bowman. It was built by a local man, Jody Pendarvis, to welcome aliens whenever they finally decide to land.

  7. It is against the law to buy or sell an electric eel in South Carolina.

  8. Myrtle Beach is the Golf Capital of the world, and South Carolina has more than 300 public and private golf courses in total.

  9. Sumter has the largest Gingko farm in the world.

  10. South Carolina owns and operates its own school bus fleet, and is the only state in the nation to do so.

Fun Facts About Kansas:

  1. Kansas is really is flatter than a pancake. Scientists proved it when they compared the topography of Kansas against that of a pancake from IHOP.

  2. In Derby County, Kansas, a law is in place that makes it illegal for any person to hit or punch a vending machine when it has stolen a person’s money.

  3. In Kansas, it is illegal to hunt whales, even though it is located in the middle of the country with no coastline in sight.

  4. The tallest waterslide in the world is at the Schlitterbahn Waterpark in Kansas city, Kan. It is taller than Niagara Falls.

  5. Second only to Texas, there have been more meteorites found in Kansas than in any other state west of the Mississippi River.

  6. Kansas in one of the two sources of helium in the U.S.

  7. The first national hamburger chain started in Kansas when Walter Anderson opened the first White Castle hamburger restaurant in Wichita in 1921.

  8. The largest ball of twine is in Cawker City and it measures over 38 feet in circumference and weighs more than 16,750 pounds.

  9. In Topeka it is illegal to sing the alphabet on the streets at night.

  10. Opened in 1857, Hays House, in Council Grove, is the oldest continuously operating restaurant west of the Mississippi River.

Fun Facts:

  1. Clinton Riggs designed the YIELD sign. It was first used on a trial basis in Tulsa.

  2. Oklahoma is one of only two states whose capital cities name includes the state name. The other is Indianapolis, Indiana.

  3. Oklahoma was the setting for the movie “Twister”.

  4. State Motto: Labor Omnia Vincit {Labor Conquers All Things}

  5. Bob Dunn a musician from Beggs invented the first electric guitar 1935.

  6. In Gurhrie nearly 20,000 lighters and “fire starters” are displayed at the National Lighter Museum. The nation’s only museum devoted to the collection of lighters.

  7. The National Cowboy Hall of Fame is located in Oklahoma City.

  8. A statue entitled “Hopes and Dreams,” in downtown Perry was created by local sculptor Bill Bennett and placed there on a massive granite pedestal as a Cherokee Strip Centennial memorial. The statue portrays an early-day couple coming to the newly opened western frontier.

  9. The Amateur Softball Association of America – a volunteer-driven, not-for-profit organization based in Oklahoma City, OK – was founded in 1933 and has evolved into the strongest softball organization in the country.

  10. Oklahoma’s capitol building was the only capitol building without a proper dome in the US. It finally received a proper dome in 2002, 85 years after the capitol was originally constructed.

  2. The Crazy Horse Mountain Carving will be the largest sculpture in the world if it is ever completed. It has been under construction since 1948.

  3. Clark, SD is home to the famous mashed potato wrestling competition.

  4. It is illegal to fall asleep in a cheese factory.

  5. The Corn Palace is made up of 3500 bushels of corn and is located in Mitchell, SD.

  6. One of largest and most complete skeletons of a Tyrannosaurus Rex on Earth was excavated near Faith, SD.

  7. It is illegal for casinos to have a sign that says “casino”.

  8. Shooting animals from an airplane is a crime in SD.

  9. SD has one of the largest American Indian populations with 9 tribes and around 60,000 people currently living there.

  10. Jewel Cave is the third-longest cave in the world with more than 120 miles of passages having been surveyed.

  3. Nicknamed “The Silver State”, Nevada is actually the number one gold producing state in America and fourth in the world.

  4. Most of the wild horse population of the United States is in the Nevada state.

  5. Goldfield used to be the biggest city in Nevada, but now it’s the second smallest county seat in the whole of the U.S.

  6. There are 100 miles of underground tunnels on the Comstock mining area in Nevada.

  7. In 1910, Nevada was the only state in the U.S. that allowed boxing matches.

  8. The hard hats that we see construction workers wearing today were invented in 1933 for the workers on Hoover Dam.

  9. Virginia City is supposedly the most haunted town in North America.

  10. There is only seven inches of rain on average each year in Nevada.
