Fun Facts about Arkansas:

  1. Mountain View is home to one of the largest producers of handmade dulcimers in the world.

  2. Clark Bluff overlooking the St. Francis River contains chalk to supply the nation for years.

  3. The Magnet Cove region claims to contain 102 varieties of minerals.

  4. Sam Walton founded his Wal-Mart stores in Bentonville.

  5. Pine Bluff is known as the world center of archery bow production.

  6. Little River County Courthouse is world famous for it’s Christmas lights display.

  7. The South Arkansas vine ripe pink tomato is the official state fruit and blossom. It was designated in 1987.

  8. 47 hot springs flow from the southwestern slope of Hot Springs Mountain, at an average temperature of 143 F.

  9. The honeybee is the official state insect. It was officially designated in 1973.

  10. Milk is the official state beverage. It was designated in 1985.

Now it’s time for some fun facts about Kentucky! Who’s ready?!


Fun Facts About Kentucky:

  1. More than $6 billion worth of gold is held in the underground vaults of Fort Knox. This is the largest amount of gold stored anywhere in the world.

  2. The world’s largest free-swinging bell known as the World Peace Bell is on permanent display in Newport.

  3. Middlesboro is the only city in the United States built within a meteor crater.

  4. The song “Happy Birthday to You” was the creation of two Louisville sisters in 1893.

  5. Thunder Over Louisville is the opening ceremony for the Kentucky Derby Festival and is the world’s largest fireworks display.

  6. Cumberland is the only waterfall in the world to regularly display a Moonbow. It is located just southwest of Corbin.

  7. Mammoth Cave is the world’s longest cave and was first promoted in 1816, making it the second oldest tourist attraction in the United States. Niagara Falls, New York is first.

  8. Cheeseburgers were first served in 1934 at Kaolin’s restaurant in Louisville.

  9. The first enamel bathtub was made in Louisville in 1856.

  10. The Lost River Cave and Valley Bowling Green includes a cave with the shortest and deepest underground river in the world. It contains the largest cave opening east of the Mississippi.

Fun Facts about Virginia:

  1. Bristol is legally two cities but they share the same main street. One in Virginia and one in Tennessee each with its own government and city services.

  2. Patrick Henry made his “Give me Liberty or Give me Death” speech in St. John’s Church in Richmond.

  3. The world’s only oyster museum is on Chincoteague Island.

  4. Wild Ponies have roamed freely on Assateague Island and Grayson Highlands for centuries.

  5. Virginia is the home base for the United States Navy’s Atlantic Fleet.

  6. Virginia has had 3 capital cities: Jamestown, Williamsburg, and Richmond.

  7. Union Passenger Railway was the first successful electric street railway transit agency. It was formed in 1888 at Richmond.

  8. American Greek Life started in Virginia with the founding of Phi Beta Kappa at the College of William and Mary in 1776.

  9. Four of the first five presidents were born in Virginia. In fact, Virginia is the birthplace of 8 US presidents altogether!

  10. Never flip a coin to decide who is going to pay for coffee. Yes, the coffee coin toss is illegal in the city of Richmond.

Fun Facts About Louisiana:

  1. Rayne is known as the “The Frog Capital of the World”.

  2. Winnsboro, the “Stars and Stripes Capital of Louisiana”, is one of the most patriotic cities in America. On Memorial Day, July 4th, Veteran’s Day, Labor Day, and other special occasions, approximately 350 American flags fly proudly along highway 15.

  3. The Saint Charles streetcar line in New Orleans and the San Francisco, California cable cars are the nation’s only mobile national monuments

  4. In Louisiana, biting someone with your natural teeth is considered a simple assault, but biting someone with your false teeth is considered an aggravated assault.

  5. New Orleans is the birthplace of jazz.

  6. In 1803, Thomas Jefferson doubled the size of the United States by purchasing the Louisiana Territory—828,000 square miles of land between the Mississippi River and the Rocky Mountains—from France.

  7. The Lake Pontchartrain Causeway, connecting New Orleans to Mandeville, is the longest bridge over water in the world. It is 24 miles long.

  8. The Saints’ Mercedes-Benz Superdome is the largest steel-constructed room unobstructed by posts in the world.
